The Song of Songs
The project to put to drawing the vibrant love story of the Song of Songs started from a conversation with Julia after church one Sunday. Julia wanted a storyboard that would both captivate the imagination, and also give us a glimpse of the kind of love all humans share a longing for. From a Christian perspective, the Song of Songs does not only celebrate the climactic drama and ecstasy of romantic love, but being the greatest love song in the Bible, also points us towards the greatest love story of all: the love story between Christ, the true Bridegroom, and His often faltering and yet beloved people, the Church.
It is our hope that as you look through the intimate scenes wonderfully put to drawing by Julia, you would also be enthralled by the beauty and drama of romantic love, a love that has been the subject of so many songs, poems and artwork across all cultures and throughout all generations. And it is my hope that as you ponder on the wonderful delight between the bride and the bridegroom of the Song of Songs, you would also catch a glimpse of the love that Christ, the true Bridegroom, has for His Bride, the Church, and His invitation for us all to also join in the greatest love story of all, by embracing the everlasting love which “many waters cannot quench” (Songs 8:7), and which is worth more than “all the wealth of a man’s house” (Songs 8:7).
